Stadium #11 - Wrigley Field

Stadium #11 - Wrigley Field
July 2, 2009
Milwaukee Brewers V. Chicago Cubs

We left early to get to Wrigley Field because it's Wrigley Field and there is so much history there. The guys said it was just a mile down the road and we knew we would lose our parking place if we drove, so we decided to walk. So off we go walking to Wrigley Field.

After walking about 1.5 miles, we realized we were walking in the WRONG direction!! Of course, we were! So we asked a lady on the street and she confirmed we were going the wrong way! The bus was pulling up right then, so we jumped on the bus to get there.

After a bit on the bus (backtracking what we already walked!) we finally arrived at Wrigley Field!!

A side view

A side view of the sign so you can see the flags around it

There were SO many people around the entrance and it is right on the corner (and they didn't close the streets off) it was impossible to get a good view. They had vendors all around, as well.

I love this picture of us with Wrigley Field behind us!

You know me and my statues!!
"Mr. Cub" Ernie Banks

They also had a group playing music to get the fans geared up for the game.

And now it's time to go inside the wonderful Wrigley Field.
These are views from just off of homeplate down low during batting practice.

The original scoreboard from 1937.

The hats are behind the counters at Wrigley, but the lady still took our picture.

On our walk up to our seats we saw the rooftop seats and thought what a cool idea for those buildings!

The views just beyond Wrigley Field from our seats.

We are here!!

Left Field

The only advertisement in the outfield. There was one in right field and one in left field. Just behind it is the storage of field equipment.
The beautiful ivy on the outfield wall.

Julia and I waiting for the game to begin!

Back in the 1930's when Wrigley Field was built, used, and enjoyed there was not a jumbo-tron. All you needed to know about the game and players was announced. But times have changed, and Wrigley Field has not too much. Although it knows fans need to know more so underneath the original score board there is a small computerized screen to give fans some information. In this case, it says Chicago Cubs.

Another screen

They also have 2 screens (one down the right field line and the other down the left field line) in the uppers decks for fans to see the out of town scores.

Pitcher stats
The somewhat scary roof and netting. The roof is falling apart, the netting is supposed to catch it!

The Cubs warming up and getting ready for the game.

"And now taking the field are your Chicago Cubs"

The foul poles

Some views around the field later during the game

We went to a great game!! There were 3 big homeruns that earned the Cubs lots of runs and cheers from the crowd!

Final Score
Milwaukee Brewers - 5
Chicago Cubs - 9

Here are the Cubs celebrating their win!

The Cubs have their own song that they sing win they win!

Whether the Cubs win or lose they hang up a flag with a 'W' or a 'L' to let the people on the train know the outcome of the game.

Unlike any other field, the Cubs fans do not leave. It doesn't matter if they win or lose the fans are still there!

Once they do leave the field, they all just file down the road and fall into one of the MANY bars to continue their good spirits.

To me it seems that no matter how their team plays, Cubs fans are always ready to party! This was a great experience and I'm glad I was able to come to Wrigley Field to experience baseball!
