Day 7 in Arizona with many miles of travel ahead of us
We wake up early to yummy smells coming from Aunt Sophie's kitchen. She is making us breakfast before our long drive for the day. =) Thank you!
We have a very long day with lots of driving ahead of us. The crazy plan is to drive from Phoenix, AZ through part of New Mexico, into and across Texas all the way to Houston. To help with our travels, Julia brought her Garmin navigation device. When we were in SD it had us going all kinds of crazy directions, and honestly I wanted to throw it out the window!!! But she continued to play with it and we think it's working better now, as she did get us to Houston. We decided to name her, Doyer. =)
Here she is!
The first of MANY I-10 signs we see throughout our trip.
The last few views as we leave Arizona
Potty stop in Bowie! Where you ask?? I'm still not sure and I went through it! =)
Our drive through Arizona was very boring, as there was not a lot to look at. Other than the mountains in the distance, flat lands, and LOTS of cactus.
Then we hit New Mexico!! One might think the scenery would change, but NO!
There were long stretches of high wind and dust storms throughout New Mexico. These were the warning signs we saw along the way.
Yet another I-10 sign...
Welcome to Texas!! Yes, we are still driving!
Some views of Texas
It's getting too dark to take pictures, but trust me there have been a million I-10 East signs because I think we took it almost the whole way from Phoenix to Houston!
Still driving...it's probably been about 12 hours of driving. We stopped at a Sonic in Fort Stockton, TX for some dinner and an energy post! This is (apparently) the "cool" spot for kids to hang out. I kinda felt like we were sitting in the middle of downtown San Jose eating! There was loud and mismatched music blaring from everywhere! Next door was a car wash and that had lots of kids hanging out to!
(Notice all the bugs on the windshield! YUCK!)
After Doyer lead us in the most odd, roundabout way through a rural country area, we stopped in Harper, TX. I only know this because we stopped at a Cheveron there and it was on the steps of the country store steps.
And a picture of us in Harper, TX after about 14 hours of driving.
We finally arrived in Houston, TX. For a grand total of 19 hours. I had to drive from 9 pm-2:40 am (CA time) because Julia's ishta hurt! But we made it safely! We checked in and drove around to our hotel, only to see this cool van in the parking lot.
Then when we went into our room, we found this in the tub. FYI It's Texas sized!
We called down to have our new friend, Geral, clean it. He did and he also moved us rooms, I like the new one 100% better! =) That's all I'm going to say about that!
All in all, it was a very long day. We finally got to sleep about 5:30 am Texas time, only to have a wake up call at 10am so we could get ready to see the Houston Astros!!
OMG!! YES my ishta and back hurt. Heather did a terrific job getting us to Houston, TX safely. I stayed wake with her the whole way which caused our MANY delerious moments.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Thanks to 'doyer' and AAA maps for getting us here... although it took FOREVER.
