Stadium #6 - Minute Maid Park

Stadium #6 Minute Maid Park
June 25, 2009
Kansas City Royals v. Houston Astros

After the 19 hour drive and about 5 hours of sleep, we were out and about again! This time on to Minute Maid Park, Home of the Houston Astros. I was looking forward to seeing this ballpark because it is all enclosed. Although it was very weird/strange watching a baseball game inside, but the AC kept us cool from the 100* weather outside.

The drive to Minute Maid Park led us through downtown Houston. The park is nestled in downtown so I wasn't able to get a picture of the whole stadium, just sections. Here are some views on the drive to the ballpark.

We made it to the ballpark!!

They also had signs/banners around the ballpark on the light posts. It is Minute Maid's 10th season so that's what they are celebrating.

Around the ballpark, they have the sections labeled. You do not have to go in where you are sitting, but it gives you an idea of where you are.

Our traditional outside the ballpark picture!

And of course the home team hat picture!

There was lots of stuff to look at outside the ballpark. They had flags with all their past winnings.

And some statues of players.

Lots of big baseballs around the ballpark!

Still walking around outside the ballpark. There was a lot to see, despite the 100*+ weather!

We finally made it inside (after the took away Julia's sunscreen and water!)!!
Here's our view from center field towards home plate.

The Astros keep track of homeruns too. This is the homerun pump!

Views along the walls as we walked through the ballpark.

As we were walking around the inside of the ballpark, you could see Houston.

We take forever to get to our seats because I have to stop and see everything there is and take it all in. But we finally made it and these are some views of the park from our seats. We had really good seats 4 rows up behind home plate!

Seats along 3rd base

Seat along 1st base

The scoreboard straight across the park.

View of Houston through the windows just above center/left field.

The train in the window. When the Astros hit a homerun and when the game ended there were fireworks from the train.

A field view with home plate

Julia and I waiting for the game to begin!

The dugouts

Today's game the roof was closed. But it had been open earlier and these are the birds that were trapped in when they closed the roof. They all around and even landed on the field. One play the ball came near them and they didn't even move!

7th Inning Stretch!
"Root, root for the Astros!" They put up the words too!

Then they sang the Texas song!

It's not over until the FAT lady sings! And she was singing!!! :)

Clean up after the game

The Houston Astros win!! Another win for the home team!!
Kansas City Royals - 4
Houston Astros - 5

Because of the big window glare it was hard to get a good picture without us being dark.

Thank you Minute Maid Park!!! It was fun! :)

One more night in Houston and we will be on the road again...This time to Arlington, Texas. It's in between Dallas and Fort Worth.
